With the rise of memory hungry applications like browsers with rich web content, as well as an ever expanding wealth of high-powered business applications, the adoption of 64-bit software has dramatically increased to the point where 46 percent of all Windows 7 desktop installations are 64-bit, compared to an all-time high adoption rate of just 11 percent for Windows Vista, and just 1 percent of XP Pro, according to Gartner Research.
